Ben & Jerry’s, in order to continue to drive positive change in its supply chain, was interested in identifying a standardized way to measure the overall social and environmental impact of its suppliers (especially in comparison to each other).
LIFT worked with Ben & Jerry's to benchmark their significant suppliers using the B Impact Assessment (a free tool that helps any company measure, compare, and improve its performance). The goal of the project was to provide Ben & Jerry’s a holistic, “big picture” view of its supply chain, make the performance of individual suppliers tangible and comparable, and help each supplier improve their social and environmental impact.
- Ben & Jerry’s was able to pinpoint positive (or concerning) areas of supply chain performance, both on the individual supplier level, and by identifying areas that seem to affect suppliers as a group
- Ben & Jerry's now has access to impact data for future marketing, external communications, and sustainability reports, providing more opportunities to increase credibility and consumer trust
- Participating suppliers gained the knowledge, skills, and resources to continually improve their performance
