Vision: Networked System of Worker-owned Coops that federate into Larger Worker-Owned/Producer Multi-Stakeholder Coops

Goals:

  • provide dramatic improvement in quality of life for the foundation of our agricultural system: the workers
  • democratize ownership
  • elevate the understanding of "regenerative" as net-positive relationships which is underpinned by understanding symbiotic relationships: degenerative net negative (parasitic, predatory) vs. regenerative net positive (mutualist, commensalist)
  • elevate the understanding that the predominant business model uses the same extractive economic business model as slavery
  • make the link between extractive relationship with the land & extractive relationship with people
  • elevate the fact that the predominant ag business model is parasitic/predatory in the symbiosis of it's very structure (ie: socially/economically degenerative) and that the way to address this is not to fight for wages or better treatment (ie: sustaining the host of the parasite), but to design a new economic organism in the economy landscape that is fundamentally mutualistic through reciprocity and democratic ownership
  • address systematic racial/class oppression
  • intervention at key systemic leverage point/acupressure point/nodal point: siphon the labor source (a key input) for parasitic business models by providing dramatically more attractive livelihoods for workers.  this will simultaneously strengthen workers organized under regenerative enterprises while destabilizing degenerative enterprises b/c as cheap labor becomes more scarce, their costs will rapidly increase.  many will go out of business (sad, but the model is degenerative) which will free up more land and resources for regenerative models.
  • prepare for the behavior of degenerative business models as they become starved of cheap labor  --> people will react to losing their unearned power & privilege, so understanding the nature of pulling the rug out from under that power (siphoning power form existing sources on the basis of their dissonance w/ truer principles of economics); understand the aikido-type nature of this economic strategy, anticipate attack, and prepare to leverage that inertia beneficially (ie: further destabilize degenerative models while supporting regenerative models)
  • plug in new regenerative models into regenerative markets/supply streams (ie: terra genesis network, democracy collaborative network, anchor institutions)
  • Orgs like LIFT Economy, Kitchen Table Advisors, Project Equity, Certified EO, etc provide technical business support to orgs throughout emerging ecosystem
  • RAIN & non-extractive lending allies can provide financial support
  • recognize that the key to all of this is in the sound regenerative DESIGN of a multitude of worker-owned enterprise at the grassroots level that adhere to the principles of regeneration with regard to the land, markets, society
  • leverage the collective energy of disparate movements (fifty by fifty campaign, farmworker's rights, environmental justice, etc) toward collective economic democracy and amending the social soil of the foundation of our economy and food system
  • combine this with PREC model & Kat Taylor's plans to convert millions of farmland acres to regenerative ag in the next 5 years
